Yesterday I went to Salman for mentoring (discussion and sharing about Islam). My mentor is Teh Yuyut, my senior and we have been doing mentoring for around 2 years. Teh Yuyut had inspirated me a lot. Whenever I have problems, of course I have to seek for the solutions in Quran but since I am still lacking, sometimes I ask for solution to Teh Yuyut.
In yesterday discussion, Teh Yuyut told me about Ramadhan.
Ramadhan comes near, in about 2 months from now. I have heard some people saying that we have to prepare for Ramadhan. However, I still have no idea about how to prepare for Ramadhan. Last year, I tried to do sunnah fasting, every Monday and Thursday. My thoughtless mind only thought that in order to be ready for Ramadhan, I have to practice fasting, to prepare mentally and physically.
Teh Yuyut told me an example, if we will participate in running competition, we have to practice. A lot. For months, before the competition. We have to run everyday, maybe day and night, with little rest, so we can win and get the prize. It is actually the same with us and Ramadhan. Ramadhan is like the competition, we have to run in prayer and dua. We pray, recite Al-Quran, do sunnah prayer, alms and do other good deeds full time in Ramadhan toward Allah's ridha/pleasure. And as we know that in Ramadhan, reward for doing prayer will be multiplying a lot.
Therefore, what it means with preparation for Ramadhan is we practice to do these good deeds. Everyday, before Ramadhan we can try to recite Al-Quran, for instance 2-3 page a day. As a result, we will not shocked in Ramadhan to recite Al-Quran 10 page day (a juz). It is the same as we practice run 10 km a day to join 20 km marathon later. It will be better if we can practice run nearly 20 km, the same distance as competition. It is similar as preparing Ramadhan. So, let's prepare for Ramadhan :) It is such a bless to face Ramadhan one more time this year, not all people experience it. One of our thanks to Allah is do his commands in every month, especially Ramadhan. We have to accelerate our prayer and hopefully we can obtain Lailatul Qadar and Allah's ridha.
